The 42nd Estate

As I stated in my personal blog earlier today, yesterday was a very productive day for The 42nd Estate as we thought of an idea for a site, bought the domain name, set up the blog, and launched it all in less than one day!

We all realized we share a love of YouTube videos yesterday but dislike the commenting format on the actual YouTube site. Sometimes we wish to write a few thoughts on a video we watch there (especially anything from the government) but the comment community on YouTube quickly degenerates into immature yelling and shouting.

Well, we decided to launch our own video blog to allow us to speak our mind, share videos we find and create a better community. Once we came up with the idea of our own video blog we got the ball rolling and began searching for a domain name. As you might imagine, short, logical domain names with the word videos are tough to come by!

After a lot of trial and error pinging whois in our terminals, we found wedemandvideos.com was available and so was born We Demand Videos!

Next, we installed wordpress on our servers and started searching for a theme that might already exist and fit our idea for a video blog. Well a quick google search later landed us at Zoomstart.com, where we discovered the wonderful and free WordPress theme, Videographer. Now we’re certainly not opposed to spending money or time buying or developing a quality theme, but when such a great one is already available and for a super bargain price of $0, well we fell in love quickly!

After we activated the Videographer theme, we installed Jens Tornell’s WP YouTube plugin, Lester Chan’s WP PostRatings plugin, and bam, we were up and running. We uploaded a few videos, announced the launch on our Facebook® page and proceeded to pat ourselves on the back for a job well done.
