A great way to boost your Search Engine Optimization efforts is to list your business in the search engine’s business directories. Doing so will solidify your web-site as a legitimate business and strengthen your web presence. It also may give you a chance to rank in the top search results twice for your choice keywords.

Each major search engine has a local business directory. The requirements for each vary, but mostly revolve around being an actual business and having a physical location.

Search Engine Local Business Directories

Submit your business to the local business directories for the top three search engines:

Note: Bing Local Listing Center does not work in Safari. You must use Internet Explorer or Firefox.

All three of these listings are free and will appear at the top of search results. Not only will it give you the chance to appear at the top of organic listings, but also within the local business listings at the top of the search results. By submitting to these directories and ensuring your site is optimized for visitors you may receive two listings in the top results.

That kind of top exposure is worth paying for, but luckily you can achieve it for free! All it takes is a few minutes to submit a listing, though it may take several days to be approved. Appearing in the top of the organic search results will take more work, but by publishing quality content and ensuring your site loads quickly and is organized efficiently you’re off to a good start.
