Good Luck to Justin Wright

Posted by Adam Pieniazek | News | November 21st, 2008

The 42nd Estate member, Justin Wright, is attempting to go a whole week without spending any cash. He’s up to day five so far, which looks to be the toughest day of his no spending cash experiment. Tonight he’s set to go see Doug Stanhope at a local club and is worried as there might be a drink minimum. In either case, Justin is dedicated to finding some way around spending money, without resorting to lame methods, such as begging friends to pay the tab as Steve Almond did in his no spending experiment a few weeks ago.

Honestly, Steve’s experiment simply did not impress me. Then again, my college buddies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill called me Scratch due to my innate ability to get by without any cash by begging, borrowing, and hustling. Now you can understand why Justin’s actual commitment to not spending any cash, rather than simply pushing one’s spending forward or pulling it out of someone else’s pocket, impresses me much more than Steve’s deal.

Join The 42nd Estate in wishing Justin good luck on his quest.

Good luck buddy!

  1. Thanks for the shout out. It is going to be tough but I think it can be done.

  2. I wouldn’t want to be a hypocrite. If I’m not going to spend anyone money for a certain amount of time, I would never expect anyone else to foot the bill unless they insist. There are plenty of fun things to do without spending money. Good for him!

  3. I’m with Carla on this one, either don’t spend money or do, but don’t push others into buying stuff for you and claim you’re cutting off consumption.
